Isaiah 17:1-Destruction Of Damascus/Not By The Hand Of Man

While it is certain that many prophecy scholars today have embraced the idea of Damascus becoming a ruinous heap as a result of military action, the truth however, reveals this to be a miscalculated error.  It is in their zeal to see every potential build up of U.S./N.A.T.O. forces in the region or subsequent warnings by Israel, as proof to the coming destruction of the Syrian capital or even Tehran (Iran), yet they have obviously missed significant portions of prophecy pertaining to this alliance being formed before their eyes.

The Prophet Ezekiel declares the intentions of the Lord God to gather a mighty coalition consisting of much of North Africa, Central Asia, Iran, and those confederate with them in the form of proxy militias(bands) such as Hezbollah and Hamas.  It is recorded that this confederation will be brought from the extreme north and assemble on the mountains of Israel (northern borders).  If then they are to assemble on the northern borders of Israel, exactly where will the primary force gather?

The appointed Watchman of Israel (Ezekiel) provides us valuable clues where this assembly point is located as we consider the following verses: "Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee:  I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.  Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD"-Ezekiel 39:4-5.  Notice the reference to an open field or plain here, this marker indicates a large plain along the northern mountains of Israel wide enough to host several armies as they gather.  What is this vast plain and where is it located?

The fertile plain here identified by the Prophet Ezekiel is known as the Plain of Hauran, situated in southern Syria adjacent to the Israeli held Golan Heights and Damascus http://www.tripwolf.com/en/guide/show/688463/Syria/South-of-Damascus-The-Hauran.  This fertile plain is a volcanic plateau identified with previous volcanic activity with basalt stone seen in many areas and the presence of dormant volcanic cones adjacent to the Great Rift Valley.  This is the location where Gog/Magog will assemble while the West and their Sunni allies (Saudi Arabia/GCC) observe and inquire of their intentions.

Ezekiel declares that the leader of this great confederation (Russia) will be the chief arms supplier/financier and guard protecting the alliance as it forms and prepares for battle.  It is in knowing this portion that we can identify that no Western military intervention will occur against Syria or Iran compromising this prophesied confederacy.  It is certain that the rhetoric has climbed in the region and that Western forces are being marshalled in to the region and withdrawn several times, yet none of this will change the truth concerning what is to come.

It is therefore paramount that we as students of Bible Prophecy understand that the destruction of Damascus as recorded in Isaiah 17:1 will not be the result of any military action but by the hand of the Lord God.  The great earthquake of Ezekiel 38:19,20 directed against the gathered forces of Gog/Magog will bring Damascus to a ruinous heap and the Land of Israel will be shaken violently reducing the Islamic shrines now on the Temple Mount to rubble and dust.  From this point the fury of the Lord will be poured out upon the gathered host arrayed against Israel and the nations bordering Israel will slay each other as recorded in Ezekiel 38:21.

Scholars today are captivated by every military movement, taking away from the prophetic picture and missing the point of the Lord God establishing his glory in the presence of all nations as the enemies of Israel will be laid waste in unison in one combined prophetic event.  The prayer for divine intervention of Psalm 83 will be fulfilled in Ezekiel 38:21, while Isaiah 17:1 will be fulfilled in the context of Ezekiel 38:19,20 in the form of a great earthquake.  There will be no mistaking the hand of the Lord God upon all those seeking to destroy the House of Israel and the inhertiance of Jacob (Land).  In the coming days we will see this draw closer to final fulfillment.
